A partnership between Lōkahi, Hawai‘i Youth Symphony (HYS) and Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii (BGCH) will expand music education opportunities for Hawai‘i’s youth. The program blends in-person instruction, digital learning tools, and mentorship to nurture talent and inspire lifelong engagement with music.

More than ninety students from across Hawai'i showcased their musical talents on Saturday at Ala Moana Centerstage accompanied by three-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning artist, Paula Fuga, and multi-instrumentalist educator Abe Lagrimas Jr. The Ho'olōkahi Challenge Play Along was the culmination celebration for the first-ever Ho'olōkahi Lyrics Writing Challenge hosted by Lōkahi: The Ukulele Collective. The event brought together students to perform their original lyrics written for "The Lōkahi Jam."

Three-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning artist, Paula Fuga, visited Pearl Harbor Elementary School on April 17 to congratulate the winners of the Lōkahi: The Ukulele Collective (Lōkahi) Ho'olōkahi Lyrics Writing Challenge. This musical experience of a lifetime was the culmination of the students’ hard work, and a challenge that engaged hundreds of students in schools across O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i and Hawai'i Island through ukulele and songwriting.
